Classes and Workshops

Tech and craft-related classes and workshops are offered each month on a rotational basis (upcoming classes listed below). Registration is required for all classes and workshops (register by calling 607-733-9175 or visiting the Steele Memorial Library Reference Desk). All classes and workshops are free and intended for ages 10+ unless otherwise specified.

Classes

Image Editing Using GIMP

Learn to edit digital images using GIMP (free and open source software). This class is held in the Tech Lab at the Steele Memorial Library.

Blender Basics for 3D Design

An introduction to the 3D graphics software Blender. This class covers navigation of the user interface and how to implement some of its more commonly used tools for creating 3D models. Ages 10+ Space is limited. Call 607-733-9175 to register or visit the Steele second floor Reference Desk.

Lego Robotics

Use Lego Mindstorm kits to construct and program basic robots (Ages 8+). Guest Instructor: Kate Hansen. This workshop is held in the Makerspace Activity Area (in front of the Tinker Lab at the Steele Memorial Library.

Sewing Workshop (3 Weeks)

This multi-session class is taught by guest instructor Jeannette Burnett. The first session covers basic sewing techniques and sewing machine operation. Subsequent sessions feature Christmas tree ornament and hot mat projects. Register at Reference Desk on the second floor of the Steele Memorial Library. A class registration fee of $15 includes all sessions and materials. Ages: 12+

Certification Classes

Digital Media Lab Certification at Steele

Become certified to use the Digital Media Lab. You must have a parent present if you are under 16. Once you have completed the certification class, you can use the Digital Media Lab at Steele independently.

3D Printer Certification at Steele

Become certified in the use of the 3D printers at the CCLD Makerspace in the Steele Memorial Library. Completion of the certification process will allow you to use the 3D printers independently. Anyone under the age of 16 will be supervised in the use of the 3D printer.

Laser Certification

Learn to use CCLD Makerspace’s Epilog laser cutter and engraver. Certification will cover use of CorelDraw for creating designs to send to the laser and how to operate the laser.

Certification courses are for anyone 16 and up (anyone under 16 will require supervision to use equipment).
